New Climate Smart JNF General Hospital St. Kitts

During the signing ceremony for the new climate-smart JNF General Hospital, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, the Minister of Health and Prime Minister, proclaimed a historic milestone in healthcare infrastructure.

This program, called “Project Start,” is the beginning of a revolutionary project to create a comprehensive “health city.”

The future hospital’s location, which is ideally situated across from the Ross University of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS), was the venue of the symbolic signing ceremony.

A collaborative ecosystem including UMHS, Ross University, the new climate-smart hospital, a research center, and private healthcare facilities was visualized by Prime Minister Drew in his ambitious vision.

This comprehensive approach intends to redefine healthcare quality and accessibility in the region, serving the local population as well as visitors and neighboring islands.

In light of the growing problems faced by climate change, Prime Minister Drew emphasized the need for a climate-smart hospital and the importance of incorporating climate resilience into healthcare infrastructure.

Taking into account the rapidly changing healthcare environment and technological breakthroughs, the new facility aims to meet the needs of modern patients while reducing the effects of climate-related disturbances.

The Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC), a well-known construction company with its headquarters located in the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis formalized their relationship with a ceremonial signing.

Both Prime Minister Drew and OECC President Mr. Hsiao Yun Yeh (James) reaffirmed their commitment to the project.

Prime Minister Drew acknowledged the importance of local involvement and emphasized the vital role that local businesses played in ensuring the project’s success and creating jobs for Kittitians and Nevisians.

As a thank you, Prime Minister Drew also acknowledged President Tsai Ing-wen of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for her crucial assistance in making this effort a reality.

The entire signing ceremony took place on May 2, 2024.
